Question: My ten-month-old Lab is challenging other dogs that he comes in contact with. He growls and charges the other dog. He's gotten into several fights and I'm afraid the situation is getting worse. I'm afraid I won't be able to hunt him with other dogs if this keeps up. What should I do?
Karl R., Taylor.
Answer: Neuter him. It'll take two to four months for the full benefit from neutering to take affect. Then, he should be able to social with other dogs. This isn't an easy problem to deal with or change. Contact me thirty days after neutering him for an evaluation. Don't accept this behavior. Let the dog know you don't approve of it. When walking him, use a pinch collar. When he confronts other dogs, yank on the leash and tell him ‘no!' I use ‘stop it' as well as ‘no.'
